To ask the Secretary of State for Health what are the figures for the number of eye examinations before and after the introduction of charges.

The number of sight tests under the general ophthalmic services over the past five years is given in the table. Information is currently not available as to number of general ophthalmic services sight tests carried out since April 1989.
