To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the average number of hours spent teaching Welsh in schools in Wales in (a) primary and (b) secondary sectors; and if he will give a county by county breakdown.

The latest information about the time spent on teaching Welsh is derived from the primary school staffing survey 1987. The information is shown in the following table:
