Habitats Directive

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will support a European Community habitats directive, providing protection for special features of value to wildlife.

I refer the hon. Member to the answer given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State to my hon. Friend the Member for Luton, South (Mr. Bright) on 30 November at column 370.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement following the Council of Environmental Ministers on 28 and 29 November concerning discussions held on the proposed European Community habitats directive; and if he will indicate what funding will be made available to enable the effective implementation of the directive in the United Kingdom.
