To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on Government support for flue gas desulphurisation equipment.

The Government are committed to ensuring that the sulphur dioxide reduction requirements of the EC large combustion plants directive are met. The retrofitting of power stations with flue gas desulphurisation equipment will assist in achieving this. The choice of equipment to be used is a matter for the industry itself.
