To ask the Secretary of State for Health why the Health Education Authority has withdrawn the leaflet MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccination reference 1D19 ISBNI 85448 050 2 printed by Graphoprint 8/88 and replaced it with an edition which is identical save for the photograph of the child on the cover; how many copies were printed of the 1988 edition; how many remained in stock at the time of its replacement by the 1989 edition; how many copies of the 1989 edition have been printed; what was the reason for the replacement of the original photograph by the new one on the front of the 1989 edition; what was the cost of the 1988 and 1989 editions; and what was the cost of changing the photograph.

A new edition of the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccination leaflet (ID19) was produced only after all stocks of the original leaflet were used. A new photograph was used after Health Education Authority research indicated that the original had limited appeal.The original leaflet cost £16,198 for 1.279,000 copies, and a reprint cost £6,095 for a further 400,000 leaflets. The new printing cost £9.785 for 850,000 leaflets, plus £400 for the new photograph.
