To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information he has on the presence in food or drink of other similar hydrocarbons one might expect to find where benzene has been found naturally.

According to the scientific literature hydrocarbons related to benzene have been detected in some foods and drinks but we do not have detailed information. The steering group on food surveillance has begun some work in this area but results are not yet available.
