To ask the Prime Minister whether she will attend the summit meeting of world leaders to be held by the United Nations on 29 to 30 September to address the urgent needs of children in the 1990s; and if she will make a statement about the role of Her Majesty's Government in planning the agenda for the meeting.

I cannot yet say whether it will be possible for me to attend this summit. The United Kingdom is, however, contributing actively to its preparation. We are a member of the planning committee set up by the six original sponsors, and are also playing a full part in the working groups set up to prepare particular aspects.
