To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the managerial relationship between the newly appointed director of public health in the Eastern health and social services board and (a) environmental health officers and (b) the area board chief medical officer.

The title of chief administrative medical officer (that is, the area board's chief medical officer) changed to director of public health on 1 September 1989. Environmental health officers are employed by local councils and have no managerial relationship with the Eastern health and social services board.
