To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security for what reason his Department has not paid over to a constituent of the right hon. Member for Woking the arrears of pension remitted to it from France on 31 October 1989, under the Department's reference 3392/AA229393A/OVB A3P.

The Department has been unable to trace any record of receipt of arrears of French pension which the French authorities state was sent on 9 or 31 October 1989. Inquiries are continuing but in the meantime arrangements are being made, exceptionally, to pay the pensioner the sum estimated to be due to her after adjustment to take account of other benefit paid to her over the period covered by the arrears.
