To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give the reasons for his Department's refusal of the urban development grant application submitted jointly by the John Lewis Partnership and the London borough of Islington in respect of the Jones Brothers building in Holloway road, London N7.

The application for urban development grant towards the refurbishment of the department store was rejected in August 1985 on the ground that the project did not offer good value for money in terms of the new jobs and other benefits likely to arise.
