To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government on the recycling of plutonium from warheads being decommissioned for subsequent use in other nuclear weapons; and if it is the Government's intention to reuse the plutonium from decommissioned Polaris A3-TK warheads in the Trident D-5 programme.

It is the policy of her Majesty's Government to recover all reusable materials, including special nuclear materials, from nuclear warheads which have been returned form service. It would not be in the national interest to give details on the sources and application of fissile materials used in specific defence nuclear programmes.
