To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many people in Yorkshire are on less than half the average income; how many are below average incomes; and if he will make a statement.

The Government do not publish statistics on living standards disaggregated on a regional basis. However, a recent publication by the Social Services Select Committee contains results of an analysis carried out by the Institute for Fiscal Studies. Copies of the publication—"Households and Families Below Average Income: a Regional Analysis"—are available in the Library.
