To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many private beds were available, and how many consultant hours were worked in association with these private beds by consultants employed by the National Health Service in Gwynedd in the most recent available year.

On 31 March 1989, the latest date for which information is available, there were 52 beds in private hospitals in Gwynedd. I have also authorised that a maximum of 2,920 bed days may be used by private patients in National Health Service hospitals in Gwynedd in any one year. Information on the number of hours worked by National Health Service consultants in association with these beds is not available centrally.
