To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many inquiries he has had from independent schools regarding the adoption of the national curriculum by them; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. Friend welcomes the interest shown by many individual independent schools, and by their representative bodies, in adopting the national curriculum. In response to this, he has arranged for the independent sector to receive copies of all national curriculum statutory orders and other national curriculum material.
