To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in what conferences or other international fora Britain is presently involved to secure arms control and weapons system reductions; and if he will make a statement.

The United Kingdom is a participant in the two sets of conventional arms control negotiations currently under way in Vienna, and in the chemical weapons negotiations at Geneva. Although the CFE negotiations have made less progress in recent months than NATO would have wished, our aim is still to reach the target of agreement this year.
