To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what advice or instructions were given by his Department to the board of the Cardiff Bay development corporation concerning the appointment of a chief executive in 1987–88; and if he will list his powers and responsibilities in relation to such appointments.

Under the provisions of schedule 26 of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 sole responsibility for the appointment of the chief executive rests with the Cardiff Bay development corporation.
