To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many households in the north-east were disconnected from their water supplies in 1987–88 and 1988–89.

Information on disconnections is available by water company areas only. The numbers of household disconnections by the former Northumbrian and Yorkshire water authorities and by the statutory water companies (SWCs) operating in their areas were as follows:
