To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from the Scottish Consumers Council about the possible decline of legal services in rural areas.

The council has expressed concern about the possible effect of the Bill on rural legal services, and has welcomed our initiative in monitoring the position. The council welcomes the proposals in the Bill to widen consumer choice as something for which there is demand in Scotland.
