To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give an estimate of the current number of homeless in Wales; and, of those, how many suffer from (a) alcoholism or drug dependency, (b) AIDS and (c) mental illness.

There were 4,2081 households accepted as homeless during the quarter ending 31 March 1990. Of these, 26 households were classed as in priority need because a household member was considered vulnerable as a result of mental disability. Information on the number of persons in households accepted as suffering from alcohol or drug dependency or AIDS is not collected centrally.

1 This figure includes an estimated 2,000 households made homeless in Colwyn as a result of the major flooding incident in February 1990.
