To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give the latest figures for fatal accidents at work per million employees and the comparable figure for 1979.

The figure for 1979 was 27 per million employees. The latest available figure, for 1988–89, was 24 per million employees—provisional—which includes the fatalities from the Piper Alpha disaster.
