To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what involvement he has had with Northern Electric and the Neptune Group and their plans to locate a gas-fired power station in Teesside; and if he will make a statement.

My Department is aware of the Neptune Group's interest in constructing a 1,050 MW combined cycle gas turbine power station on Teesside. However my right hon. Friend has not yet received either an application under section 14 of the Energy Act 1976 for his agreement to use gas as the fuel in such a station or an application under section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 for his consent to construct the station.
