To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what percentage of under-fives have places in local authority nurseries.

There were 41,785 three and four-year-olds in Scottish education authority nursery schools at September 1989, 32ยท2 per cent. of the 1989 mid-year estimate of the total three and four-year-old population, the range which is the relevant age group for nursery education.
