To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what discussions he has had with firms in Renfrew district about impending redundancies; and what practical assistance his Department has been able to offer.

My Department is in close touch with companies in Renfrew district that have announced redundancies and has ensured that they are aware of the assistance available, through regional selective assistance, towards capital expenditure designed to create or safeguard jobs. Decisions on such investment are matters for the companies themselves.
