To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland on what authority the Central Legal Office used private detectives to monitor the behaviour of Carol Campbell.

The Central Legal Office was acting on the instructions of Dumfries and Galloway health board which took the decision to use private detectives in this case in the light of legal advice from senior counsel and the Central Legal Office.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his Department's policy on the use of private detectives by the Central Legal Office.

This is a matter for individual health boards in the light of legal advice.
