To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects to announce the results of research into the processing of smoked fish and how the industry might comply with the Food Hygiene (Amendment) Regulations affecting the sending of smoked salmon and trout through the post; and whether he will make a statement.

The results of research commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food are expected shortly. Together with colleagues in MAFF and the Department of Health, we shall consider the results and any implications for the food hygiene regulations.
