To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has any plans to meet the Lithuanian Foreign Minister; and if he will make a statement.

I met the Lithuanian Foreign Minister, Mr. Algirdas Saudargas at the Foreign Office on 15 January. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs met Mr. Saudargas on 16 January. As my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State told the right hon. Member for Manchester, Gorton (Mr. Kaufman) in reply to his question later that day, we shared Mr. Saudargas's anxiety about the continuing threat of repression in Lithuania and other republics.
