To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will give details of the number of hospital beds by district health authority in the Trent regional health authority (a) in 1979, (b) in 1985 and (c) for the latest date for which he has figures.

The information requested is given in the tables.

In 1988–89 when data were collected on both bases, finished consultant episodes in Trent regional health authority exceeded discharges and deaths by 8 per cent.
