In June 1989 there were 6,879 dairy farms in Northern Ireland; 4,984 produce less than 200,000 litres.

The June 1990 agriculture census indicates 5,698 farms in Northern Ireland where cereals were grown, of which 5,439 grew less than 30 hectares (74ยท1).
