To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a further statement on his Department's initiatives to promote more consistent professional practices with regard to speech therapy by local education authorities.

The Department works closely with the Department of Health to promote consistency in the provision of speech therapy services available to local education authorities. However, the professional practice of speech and language therapists is primarily the responsibility of the College of Speech and Language Therapists.
