To ask the Secretary of State for trade and Industry what action was taken following receipt of letters dated 12 June and 19 June from Mr. Vivian Ambrose of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International's United Kingdom regional inspection department.

I see no reason for doing so. Under part II of the Companies Act 1989, the recognised supervisory bodies must have adequate rules and practices as to professional integrity and independence. We also propose to make use of the powers in section 390B of the Companies Act 1985 to require disclosure of fees paid to auditing firms and their associates in respect of non-audit work.
