Mr. Ashton
To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment why he has decided not to list imported petroleum coke as a registered fuel for domestic heating appliances under the Clean Air Act 1956.
Mr. Trippier
[holding answer 22 July 1991]: Application for authorisation under the Clean Air Act 1956 of a fuel for use in a smoke control area must be made to the Department of the Environment who arrange to have the fuel tested before authorising it. Regulations that came into effect this month authorised Pureheat ovoids, a blend of petcoke and coal; but no application has been received in recent years for authorisation of imported petroleum coke.
