Training Courses (Grants)

To ask the Secretary of State for Health for how many training courses for professions relevant to the health service there is a mandatory grant; and if he will list them.

National Health Service bursaries are available for the following pre-registration training courses:

  • Project 2000 nursing
  • Midwifery
  • Dental hygiene
  • Radiography
  • Occupational therapy
  • Orthoptics
  • Physiotherapy
  • Clinical psychology1
  • 1The majority of graduates are salaried employees.
Local education authority mandatory grants may also be claimed by students undertaking health care professional training courses where they are not in receipt of an NHS bursary, and where they are attending a course that has been designated under the Education (Mandatory Awards) Regulations 1990.
