Health Authorities (Union Members)

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will review the position whereby trades union members representing health workers are disqualified from serving on the new health authorities.

There are no plans to review the Health Authority Regulations: there is nothing to prevent a member of a health service union, who does not hold a paid appointment or office with that trade union, from serving as a non-executive member of a health authority.
