To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) what is his latest estimate of the whole time equivalent staff savings to be made from the operational strategy;(2) if he will give a regional breakdown of the staff savings made to date as a result of the operational strategy.

The operational strategy is estimated to save 21,000 posts by 1995–96. Savings made by April 1991, analysed according to the seven former regions are as follows:
