To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the salaries of clerks to the magistrates courts are first paid by local authorities and then reimbursed by his Department, or paid directly; and if he will make a statement.

Salaries are paid by local authorities, which receive specific grant support from the Home Office for magistrates courts expenditure.
