To ask the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will publish the results of his review of the work permit scheme; when he expects the new scheme to be in operation; and what guidance he is giving to (a) employers and (b) workers about the new scheme.

I refer the hon. Member to my answer given to my hon. Friend the Member for Nottingham, South (Mr. Brandon-Bravo) on 31 January, Official Report, columns 637–38. The main changes to the work permit scheme will come into effect on 1 October 1991 when revised application forms and guidance notes for employers will be available.
