To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if his Department has received reports which have been commissioned into the operation of the actively seeking employment condition.

I have today placed in the Library of the House a copy of a report commissioned from the Institute of Manpower Studies into job search behaviour following the introduction of actively seeking employment as a condition for entitlement to unemployment benefit.
