To ask the Secretary of State for Energy how many licences have been granted for the exploration of gas in the Ryedale district.
Since the introduction of the Petroleum (Production) Regulations 1966, 23 petroleum licences have been awarded covering areas wholly or partly within the Ryedale district. Of these, 13 are still in existence. These licences confer rights to explore for oil as well as gas. I have placed in the Libraries of both Houses a copy of a map which shows the current licensed areas in the Ryedale district.
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will list (a) the area, (b) the applicant and (c) the date of all applications that have been made to date to take up licences granted for gas exploration in the Ryedale district.
The table lists the licences which have been awarded for areas which are wholly or partly in Ryedale district since the introduction of the Petroleum (Production) Regulations 1966. The licences confer rights to explore for oil as well as gas.
