To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information he has on the number of independent butchers' shops that have ceased trading in the last 12 months.

I have been asked to reply. The number of traders registered for VAT as butchers was 13,641 in April 1991 compared with 14,181 12 months previously.
