To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can give an undertaking that in internal investigations of banks carried out under the Banking Act partners from auditing firms criticised by Department Trade and Industry inspectors will not be used.

I am advised that the Bank of England will continue to take into account all relevant factors in deciding who should conduct investigations commissioned under the Banking Act.
