To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement about Government policy towards research and development of offshore wave power devices, with specific reference to Salter's Duck.

The Department of Energy is currently reviewing the prospects for wave energy across the whole range from shoreline to large-scale offshore devices, including the Salter Duck. The review is expected to be completed later this year.Further funding of £205,000 for the United Kingdom's first shoreline wave energy system on the Scottish island of Islay was announced on 15 July, bringing the total funding by the Department for this device to £900,000.
