Unit Labour Costs

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the percentage change in unit labour costs in (a) Britain and (b) Germany in the last 12 months.

Unit wage costs in mining and manufacturing in the former Federal Republic of Germany rose by 3 per cent. in the year to the second quarter of 1991, which is the latest available information. In the same period unit wage costs in manufacturing in the United Kingdom rose by 11 per cent.
