To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what financial support is available from his Department to a student with refugee status who is barred from taking paid work but unable to claim income support or housing benefit.

I understand that students with refugee status are not barred from taking up paid employment. The social security system is not intended to support students, who should look to the educational maintenance system for any necessary financial support.
