To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what assessment he has made of the benefits to the tourism industry of moving the United Kingdom into central European time.

The Department contributed towards the costs of the work leading to the Policy Studies Institute report "Making The Most Of Daylight Hours", published in 1988. This report concluded that the adoption of single/double summer time would bring a number of likely benefits to the tourism industry.
