To ask the Secretary of State for Health what guidance has been issued to regional health authorities and district health authorities with regard to the upgrading of existing facilities for the disposal of clinical waste, following the removal of Crown immunity from hospitals.

Guidance, under cover of an executive letter ELM(91)M/1, was issued to the NHS on 20 March 1991 in a document entitled "Strategic Guide for Waste Management", a copy of which is available in the Library.
