To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will list by national health service region for each of the last five years the number of national health service maternity beds which have been lost to the service.

This information is contained in "Summary of Bed Availability—England" a copy of which is available in the Library. This includes the numbers of NHS maternity beds and the annual average percentage change in each region from 1984 to 1989–90.
