Concessionary Television Licences

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received concerning pensioners paying the full television licence fee while living in the same block of flats as others paying the concessionary fee; and if he will make a statement.

In the last 12 months we have received correspondence on this subject from two councils and one firm of solicitors. Since 1 April 1991 it has been the statutory responsibility of the BBC to determine eligibility for the concessionary licence.
