Mr. Andrew Mitchell
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science by how much funding towards education in Nottinghamshire provided by the Government has increased since 1979.
Mr. Fallon
Net recurrent spending on education in Nottinghamshire increased from some £138 million in 1979–80 to some £338 million in 1989–90, the latest year for which information on actual spending is available. That represents a real terms increase of some 22 per cent. These figures exclude spending on Nottingham Polytechnic, which transferred to the PCFC sector in 1989.
