1 Cash figures adjusted to 1990–91 price levels by excluding the effect of general inflation. The deflator series used is that for GDP at market prices adjusted to remove the distortion caused by the abolition of domestic rates.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he will publish an update of table 2.5 in Cm 1520, including the latest estimated outturn for 1990–91, with a back series to 1978–79;

(3) if he will publish in 1990–91 prices, an update of table 2·3 in Cm 1520, including the latest estimated outturn for 1990–91;

(4) if he will publish an update of table 2·2 in Cm 1520, including the latest estimated outturn for 1990–91.

[holding answer 5 November 1991]: Information on general Government expenditure by function in the period 1978–79 to 1990–91 in cash, real terms (1990–91 prices) and as a percentage of GDP has been placed in the Library of the House. The figures given are consistent with those published in the autumn statement press notice. Corresponding data for earlier years are not available on a consistent basis.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish an extended version of table 3·5 of the "Autumn Statement Statistical Supplement", including departmental planning totals for each year back to 1978–79, on as consistent a basis as possible and in 1990–91 prices.

[holding answer 5 November 1991]: Information on the planning total by department in real terms (1990–91 prices), in the period 1984–85 to 1994–95 is given in the following table. The figures given are consistent with those published in the autumn statement. Corresponding data for earlier years are not available on a consistent basis.(2) if he will publish the figures in table 2.5 in Cm 1520, including the latest estimated outturn for 1990–91, with a back series to 1978–79

(a) in cash prices, (b) in 1990–91 prices and (c) as a percentage of gross domestic product.

[holding answer 5 November 1991]: I am arranging for copies of tables setting out information on general Government expenditure by detailed function in the period 1986–87 to 1990–91 in cash, real terms (1990–91 prices) and as a percentage of GDP to be placed in the Library of the House. The figures are consistent with those published in the autumn statement press notice. Corresponding data for earlier years could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
