Mr. Macdonald
To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the salmon farming industry.
Mr. Michael Forsyth
On 8 November, in response to a request from the United Kingdom, the European Commission announced a minimum import price for certain presentations of Atlantic salmon, designed to prevent any further fall in the market price. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has welcomed the Commission's action as a helpful step in stabilising the market while attention is given to the industry's complaints of dumping by Norwegian companies.
